New Balance 990v6
Sizing & fit guide
Two ways to fit it
For standard feet stay true to size. For narrow feet go ½ down to take up the toe-box dead space. Wide feet should buy the 2E/4E width, not size up.

Why the New Balance 990v6 fits this way
The New Balance 990v6 is a premium made-in-USA daily trainer, and the sizing splits on foot shape. The standard signal: "To me they fit long and narrow, I went ½ size down," and more precisely, "If you have narrow feet, ½ size down — there is a little dead space in the toe box, but it will be a pretty snug fit. If you have normal" feet, true to size works. So the 990v6 runs slightly long, leaving toe-box dead space that narrow feet remove by going down a half, while standard feet stay true to size.
The 990's big advantage is width options: New Balance sells it in narrow (B/D), standard (D), wide (2E), and extra-wide (4E). As one wearer notes, "they have an option for extra wide feet — if it fits then you don't have to size up." This is the key difference from brands that only offer one width: wide-foot wearers should buy the 2E/4E rather than sizing up the standard width, which only adds length.
Net: true to size for standard feet; ½ down for narrow feet to take up the toe-box dead space; and choose the wide (2E) or extra-wide (4E) version for wide feet rather than sizing up. The plush ENCAP/FuelCell build is comfortable but the toe-box volume is fixed by the width you pick.
Common scenarios
I have standard-width feet, US 10 normally. What size 990v6?
US 10 — true to size for standard feet. If your feet are narrow, US 9.5 removes the toe-box dead space.
I have wide feet. Should I size up?
No — buy the wide (2E) or extra-wide (4E) 990v6 New Balance offers, and keep your true size. Sizing up the standard width just adds length.
Why is there dead space in the toe box?
The 990v6 runs slightly long. Narrow feet take it up by going ½ down; standard feet are fine at true size.
