Nike Air Max 1
Sizing & fit guide

Our verdict
True to size
The Nike Air Max 1 fits true to size but runs snug out of the box — most wearers take their normal Nike size and break them in. Wide-foot wearers and those who want a roomier lifestyle fit commonly size up a half. The page shows both options.
Medium confidence

Two ways to fit it

For a locked-in athletic fit stay true to size (snug at first, breaks in quick). For wide feet or a roomier lifestyle fit, size up ½.

Why the Nike Air Max 1 fits this way

The Air Max 1 sizing consensus is true to size with a snugness caveat. Wearers consistently report TTS with a short break-in: "TTS for me. They're a little snug at first but wear in quick" and "TTS but they are SNUG. So if that matters go up .5 size." The most useful framing came from a wearer distinguishing use cases: "TTS for playing, half size up for lifestyle" — i.e. take true size if you want the locked-in athletic fit, go up a half if you want the relaxed all-day feel.

The AM1 shares the Air Max family's general fit profile (the same wearers who are TTS in the AM90 are TTS in the AM1), but the AM1's lower-volume toe box reads snugger than the roomier 90. Wide-foot wearers therefore lean toward the half up: "I'd recommend a half size up" for medium-wide feet that find them tight.

Net: true to size for standard feet and a snug, performance-oriented fit; size up a half for wide feet, high insteps, or a roomier lifestyle wear. The mesh-and-suede upper gives a little after break-in but the toe box volume is fixed, so wide feet that need room should size up rather than wait it out.

Common scenarios

I wear US 9 in Air Max 90. What size Air Max 1?

US 9 — the AM1 fits true to size alongside the 90, just a touch snugger in the toe box. Size up to 9.5 if you want a roomier lifestyle fit.

Should I size up if I have wide feet?

Yes — the AM1 toe box runs snug, so wide-foot wearers commonly go ½ up. Standard feet stay true to size and break in the initial snugness.

TTS or half up for everyday wear?

TTS gives a locked-in athletic fit; ½ up gives a relaxed all-day feel. For lifestyle wear, many prefer the half up.
